I’m sitting in the pre-war desk chair that was yours at Someya, and pondering how… from the most uncomfortable desks in the world - dreams are born! From one Someyite to another - Ganbatte!
What you’re doing is truly amazing. I’ve been cycling for years, but something like this?! eeek. I really admire your guts!
Good luck!

To combat the loneliness, the students suggest that you should:
1.Purchase some some knicknacks.
2.Use mental imagery to think of the good times
with friends and family.
3. Attend a professional sporting event.
They also figured out that you had an average speed of 11.6 mph if you are riding for 4 hours a day. Keep it up Drew! - Mr. M

Wow man, its been a while since we spoke. This thing you’re doing is pretty cool. Hows the cycling going? Its starting to get a wee bit chilly over here, theres snow on the Alps, its gonna be the season soon. Im not recontracting, Im planning on flying to Singapore and then getting the train from there to London. Should be interesting. Ive been thinking alot about doing a season in France next year. Anyway.
Best!

Andrew,
I found out about your amazing journey a few days ago, by accident(I was looking up biking vacations and entered teacher/cycling on Google).
I was instantly impressed by your goals/dream. I too am a teacher, middle school algebra and pre-algebra (2nd year) and previously taught 12 years in elementary school to second language students.
What you are doing is very inspiring! Everyone should do something unconventional yet adventureous at some point in their lives!
I’m currently looking to see what I can do in the next few years as well.
I’ll be reading your updates and will be donating to your cause - biking is an awesome sport - I love it. By the way, do you have a rear view mirror to attach to a pair of sunglasses? If not, absolutely get one - it will allow you to see what’s behind you at all times! It’s indispensable - a safety must have!
Good luck!

hey dude, i think it’s utterly fantastical what you’re doing. i don’t think i could imitate what you’re doing but it has definitely motivated me to go on my own kind of adventure…. as if living in japan isn’t an adventure in and of itself. well, i’ll leave you with these parting words (not that you need me to give you advice) see all you can, do all you can and leave all your reservations behind you. take care.

Hi Andrew,
I have an idea for your “America” question, or at least my solution. I have not refrained from calling myself an American.
When people tell me that they are Americans also, I tell them fantastic. Why don’t they call themselves Americans. People from Mexico frequently call themselves Mexicans. Costaricans call themselves Costaricenses or ticos. Would they like it if I called them Dingbobs or whosits? Frequently the answer is no. I inform them that they have chosen to refer to me as an estadounidense. They have decided what to call me. I am from the United States of America. It is the name of my country. They have chose to call me by the first part of the name and I have chosen to call myself by the last part of my countries name. Should I not have the right of self determination? What is truly at stake is not the use of a name, but the feeling of being left out. That is a feeling of insecurity, which is not something I or you can give them. They have to deal with it from with.

Dear Andrew;
By now you must be used to living the life of leisure. Uncle Sid says you must be getting fat, if you are still eating the way you ate when we last saw you. I, truly doubt that you could ever get fat. We just gainned weight watching you eat, even though we weren’t well enough to share in the eating process. We send our love to you and also please take it with to Alison and David when you go.
Stay well, be happy and know we love you.
