Friday 2/29/08 Heredia, Costa Rica

This past Sunday we went to a great cafe for lunch in the mountains north of Heredia. They serve what is referred to here as typical food. Usually, this consists of rice and beans, fried plantains, cheese, salad, and some type of chicken or beef. There are other dishes that fall under the typical food umbrella, but often, the dish described above (or some variation of it) is what you’ll find at small cafes and restaurants specializing in the whole typical food thing.

With clear skies overhead and a big green lawn out back that indiscriminately sucked in relaxing families to its grassy embrace like some sort of Momma Nature tractor beam, the setting was idyllic. It was the type of scene that made you appreciate your health, the war-free-ness of the space around you, the warmth of the sun, and the reciprocating nature of laughter.
