National Museum in San Jose

I paid a visit to the National Museum today in San Jose. The museum, although small, houses many different pre-Colombian artifacts from different indigenous groups in Costa Rica.

When I walked up to the main entrance, I saw the following entrance fees advertised at the ticket counter:

Foreigners: $4

Foreign Students: $2

Costa Ricans: $1

When I paid my $4, the cashier didn’t ask to see an I.D.  She looked at me, held up four fingers, and silently mouthed the word ‘Four‘.  I had a feeling that the word ‘Foreigner‘ here was simply being used as a substitute for the words ‘White Person.’

Would a Nicaraguan or Mexican be charged $4, as well? I wondered.

Below are a few pics from the museum. I’ll put some written posts up tomorrow.
